Why we built Distinction

Distinction started at my own kitchen table.

I have two children. I watched one work through his GCSEs and the IB, and my other is in the middle of O-Levels now. What struck me wasn't how hard the subjects were — it was how much harder we were all making them. The pressure these kids carry is real. And the parents standing next to them, wanting to help, often haven't opened a physics or chemistry book in twenty years. You want to be useful, and you don't know where to start.

The thing I kept coming back to is this: the information these kids need already exists. It's just locked up — in dense textbooks, in scattered notes, in past papers — in a form that overwhelms far more than it helps. The syllabus isn't the problem. The packaging is.

What we believe

Every child sitting these exams deserves the information they need, in a format they can actually digest. Not more content — clearer content. Calm instead of frantic. Complete instead of full of gaps. Explained the way you'd explain it to your own kid at the kitchen table: patiently, in plain words, until it clicks.

That's what Distinction is — and it's built especially for the students who find these subjects hard and have quietly lost confidence, because those are exactly the kids the system tends to leave behind.

How I came to this

By day, I build software for large organisations. My work is taking complex, messy information and making it organised, accurate and genuinely clear. When I saw my own kids struggling, I realised that's precisely the problem in front of us — and I wanted to bring that discipline to bear on it.

So every topic in Distinction is built with the same care I'd put into work I sign my name to: mapped against the actual exam syllabus so nothing important is missing, written in our own words, and checked before it reaches a student. The bar is simple — a resource I would trust for my own children.

What you get

Every topic on the syllabus, for each subject we cover — explained in plain language, as written notes you can read and audio you can listen to on the bus, over breakfast, or on the walk to school. No cramming-culture panic. No filler. Just the whole syllabus, made calm and made clear.

Distinction is an independent revision aid. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to SEAB or MOE, and all our material is written in our own words to cover the Singapore O-Level syllabus.
