Privacy Policy
Last updated: 13 July 2026.
This Privacy Policy explains how DISTINCTION.STUDY PTE. LTD. (UEN 202631567G) (“Distinction”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, shares and protects your personal data when you use distinction.study (the “Service”). We follow Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Act 2012 (the “PDPA”).
If you are a parent setting up access for your child, this policy applies to the personal data you provide.
In short: we collect only what we need to run your account and sync your progress, we never sell your data, and you can ask to see, correct, or stop our use of it at any time.
1. What we collect
- Account details — your name and email address when you sign up.
- Billing information — your plan and payment status. Card payments are handled by our payment provider, Stripe. We receive confirmation that you’ve paid, but we never store your full card number.
- Usage and progress data — which topics you’ve opened or marked complete, and where you paused an audio episode. This is what lets your progress follow you across devices.
- Technical data — standard information your browser sends, such as your device type, your approximate location (worked out from your IP address), and basic logs. This helps us run and secure the Service.
- Messages — anything you send us when you get in touch.
2. How we use it
We use your personal data to:
- create and run your account;
- give you the content you’ve signed up for, and sync your progress;
- take payment and send receipts;
- reply to you, and send service or account messages (plus occasional updates — only if you’ve opted in);
- keep the Service secure and prevent misuse;
- meet our legal and accounting obligations.
Our legal grounds for this are your consent, together with the PDPA’s legitimate-interest basis and its other applicable bases.
3. Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with the service providers who help us run Distinction, and only as much as they need:
- Ghost — website hosting, membership accounts and email delivery.
- Stripe — payment processing.
- Cloudflare — site infrastructure, plus the storage that powers cross-device progress and secure media delivery.
We may also disclose personal data if the law requires it, or to protect our rights, our users or the Service.
4. Overseas transfer
Some of these providers process data on servers outside Singapore. When personal data leaves Singapore, we take steps intended to ensure it receives a standard of protection comparable to the PDPA’s.
5. How long we keep it
We keep your personal data for as long as your account is active, and for a reasonable period afterwards to meet legal, tax and accounting requirements. After that, we delete it or anonymise it (strip out anything that identifies you).
6. Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. Gated audio and materials are served through short-lived, access-controlled links — they are not left openly available on the internet.
7. If something goes wrong
If a data breach occurs that is likely to cause you significant harm, or that affects a significant number of people, we will notify the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) and the affected individuals as soon as practicable, in line with our obligations under the PDPA.
8. Your rights
Under the PDPA, you can:
- ask to see the personal data we hold about you;
- ask us to correct it if it’s inaccurate;
- withdraw your consent to our use of it — though this may mean we can no longer provide the Service to you.
To make a request, contact our Data Protection Officer (details in section 12). We’ll respond within a reasonable time.
9. Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies that are necessary to sign you in, keep your session going, and remember basic preferences. You can control cookies through your browser settings — but some features may not work without them.
10. Children’s data
Distinction is intended to be set up and managed with a parent or guardian’s involvement. If you believe a child’s personal data has been given to us without appropriate consent, please contact us and we will address it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “last updated” date at the top shows the current version, and we’ll notify you of significant (material) changes through the Service.
12. Contact — Data Protection Officer
